About : BDA-Lab

Our mission and vision

At BDA-LAB, our mission is to conduct state of the art research across four data analytics dimensions: 1) Deep Learning (DL), 2) Machine Learning (ML), 3) Big Data Analytics (BDA) and 4) Data Governance Infrastructure Development (DGID), which comprise the most important pillars of data analytics initiatives in the current global corporate and academic sectors.

In DL, our particular focus is on learning data distributions and generating new data stochastically to make predictions based on ML and time series forecasting. In ML, our current focus is on the detection and adaption of changes in data streams so that the performance of ML models remain up to the mark in operational scenarios. In BDA, we are focusing on developing personalized data warehousing solutions over the famous Hadoop/HDFS data lakes. Finally, in DGID, we aim to create and implement data governance infrastructures/framework to effectively solve a host of data management issues facing the corporate sector.

Besides this, our vision is to collaborate with international universities and acquire international projects on these research domains.

About the BDA-Lab

The BDA-Lab @ IBA Karachi was set up in 2018, by a grant offered by IBA Karachi. It is currently located in IBA's City Campus in HBL Building. It comprises 5 state of the art IBM server machines with pre-installed GPUs. The BDA-Lab provides dockerized GPU access and big data infrastructures for several important courses and activities within IBA. BDA-Lab primarily facilitates PhD Scholars, MS students and FYP students in their research activities.
